Pomegranate Brooch

An ancient symbol of fruitfulness and family! The fruit of prosperity and fertility, the pomegranate fruit is said to have come from the regions of present day Iran and Afghanistan. The pomegranate is attributed to the immortality of the soul and the seeds come to stand for prosperity. 

Jewish traditions teach us that the pomegranate is a symbol of righteousness - it is said to have 613 seeds, which corresponds with the 613 mitzvot, or commandments of the Torah. For this reason it is customary to eat pomegranates during the holiday of Rosh Hashanah.
