The wonder working icon of the Mother of God revealed itself in the city of Serpukhov, Russia in the year 1878. The icon is venerated in the Orthodox Church and has become known for helping and healing those suffering from addictionsIt depicts the Theotokos with hands raised, positioned behind the Christ Child, shown standing in a chalice with both hands raised in blessing.

According to some legends, the icon appeared in a dream to a man from the town of Tula. He saw a vision of an elder, who told him to go to the Vladychny Convent Temple in Serpukhov. The old man was a retired soldier and exhausted from his drinking troubles, he had no strength left in him to travel, yet he ended up crawling to the convent, as the visions persisted.

Story goes, that no one in the convent heard about this icon, so it was to everyone's amazement when one of the nuns remembered seeing it in the hallway. The elder man was commanded by the saint in his vision to come to this icon and pray for help from his drinking troubles. The elder man was healed and soon, people gathered from near and far to see the wondrous icon and ask for help.

After the 1917 Revolution, the icon was moved to St. Nicholas Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Russia and during the years of 1919-1928 eight copies were made. It has been said that in 1929 after the cathedral closed, the icons "disappeared". Their fate is still unknown.
